The Real Score by Kesh Tanglao

Caitlin's friendship with Marcus, the de facto frontman of the world's biggest boy band Gezellig, has long been an object of scrutiny by almost everyone--their friends and families, the media, and his fans--ever since they "went public" a couple of years back. Who wouldn't be interested? She was a nobody, catapulted into the limelight of his fame when he struck an unusual friendship with her.

To both Caitlin and Marcus, what they have is a "perfect little thing." But then something comes along and threatens it.

I felt Lorin grip my arm tightly, and when I turned to her, she was utterly mesmerized, her eyes wide. “Oh Lord. Did I die and go to heaven?” she said, and I pinched her hand on my arm, making her yelp just as the band passed us.
“You’re definitely awake,” I said as she slapped my hand away. I laughed as Gezellig made their way into the ballroom. Waiting commenced again, and I was thankful that we fell in line early. The twenty people ahead of us meant Lorin can have her pictures taken with the band in under an hour, give or take.
Time dwindled fast, and one by one, I saw fans leaving the ballroom with glee written all over their faces, their fangirl dreams satisfied, the stories of their meet and greet on their lips. Before I knew it, a big, burly guy who could pass off as a bouncer in a club was nodding, signaling we can enter the ballroom.
Lorin gripped my hand as we entered together.
“HELLO!”
I stumbled at the bright and loud greeting. In my surprise, I released Lorin’s hand, stepped back, my legs in a tangle, crashing into a person behind me—
Strong arms wrapped around me, stopping me from falling to the ground. I closed my eyes, grabbing whatever I could: a shoulder, an arm, a shirt. My heart raced, panic seeping into my blood.
I took three deep breaths, which were apparently the last ones I was going to take as of that moment. I felt I was being turned around, and when I finally opened my eyes, the face of the guy who stopped my fall was just inches away from mine. So close that our noses were touching.
My eyes connected with his bright emerald green orbs. I scanned his face, a playful smile on his lips.
“Klutz,” he exhaled, and that woke me up from my reverie.
